Goodbye to Bob McMahon

On Friday 19th April 2024, we were invited to attend the Celebration of Life for Bob McMahon He had passed away recently after battling cancer.

A much loved man in his community of Foral and further afield. Trevor Mann met him through the friendly boules games that are held at Foral and when I met Trevor I too met Bob & Hannah through the Boules Sunday lunches. They, along with other members of the Boules Lunches Group, have been active supporters of Algarve Emporium Charity for some years now.

The Celebration of Bob’s Life was, of course, attended by many people that were close to him and his family; friends, neighbours and health workers who were with him to the end. There were lots of touching and amusing stories shared throughout the afternoon. The event was held at O Foral Restaurant, which was a place where he had shared a many a meal and much merriment in his time.

He and his wife Hannah moved to the Algarve in 1989 when the Algarve was a very different and much quieter place than it is now. They quickly became friends with Bruce & Jennifer who had moved to Foral about the same time. Bruce addressed the crowd with a few stories that made us smile, then asked us to raise a glass to Bob, it brought tears to my eyes as he said “and now the 4 becomes a 3”.

The family requested that there be no flowers but that people donate to charity in Bob’s name instead.

Much to our surprise the money collected was given to Algarve Emporium Charity to help us feed local families, a massive 645€. Thank you so very much 😘

At a later date they will be donating some of his belongings for us to sell, to raise further funds for our cause.

God bless you Hannah and your children for your kindness at this sad time.

Rest in Peace Bob.
