Back to school backpacks

Kay Cox, Algarve Emporium Charity’s volunteer who is in charge of all things related to children, gave us some wonderful news on Wednesday.

Kay had been recommended to shop in Action, a shop in a newly opened shopping park just outside Portimão, to purchase school

stationery for the children returning to school. There she met a young lady called Nancy. Kay reported the following to me:

“Nancy and I were just having the odd word or two as we wandered round the shop. She was behind me in the checkout queue and we chatted some more and I told her a little of what we did. As I went to pay she took my arm, saying, "I would like to pay your bill. I'm new to Portugal but when I get settled I want to do charity work to help the people and I would like to start today by helping you."

Thank you from the bottom of my heart Nancy, you are going to be a great help here in Portugal”.

Nancy paid the total bill of that shopping trip, 82.55€.

What an amazing lady! Thank you from the Algarve Emporium Charity Team.

For those who don’t know, the schools don't supply the basic stationary that children need in school. It's up to the parents to supply it. For those parents who are struggling to put food on the table, this is a big ask. The average cost of a school bag & contents is 50€ (different contents for different ages).

Kay has almost completed her shopping for the school bags and contents and will be handing them out very soon
